MEMPHIS, TN — The University of Memphis opens the University Center Ballroom on Wednesday, September 30 for its Fall 2026 All-Majors Career Fair: four hours of face time with recruiters, on a campus sitting in the middle of a metro that has spent the past year absorbing layoffs. If you are a Tiger, current or former, this is the shortest distance between you and a hiring manager this fall.

This one has a gate on it, and it is better to know now than at the ballroom door. The fair is open to current University of Memphis students and to alumni with an Alumni TigerLink account. It is not a public, walk-in-off-Poplar job fair.

The alumni piece is the part people miss. If you graduated five or fifteen years ago and you are quietly looking, you are eligible — you just need the Alumni TigerLink account set up before September 30, not in the parking lot. Career Services handles that.

Why a Campus Fair Matters More Than Usual This Fall

Memphis has had a rough twelve months on the employer side. WMC Action News 5 tallied roughly 2,500 layoffs across the region over the past year, including more than 500 at Nike's Memphis operation in January, about 200 at JBS USA's meat packing plant in June, and more than 100 at Regional One Health in July. When the Greater Memphis Local Workforce Development Board and the American Job Center ran the Rise and Rebuild Regional Career Expo at Southwest Tennessee Community College in late August, 400 to 500 people were reportedly waiting at the doors.

That is the backdrop. The candidate pool is deeper than it was a year ago, which means the people who get hired on September 30 are the ones who did the homework before they walked in.

💼 Who Turned Up Last Time

The Fall 2026 roster lives behind TigerLink and is not public. What is public is the spring edition of the same fair, held in March, which drew 54 employers. Treat it as a guide to the kind of organizations that work this room, not a promise about September 30:

That mix is a fair picture of the Memphis economy: hospitals, schools, logistics, government, and a long tail of local companies most people outside the metro have never heard of.

📋 How to Show Up Ready

Four hours sounds like plenty. It is not, once you count the line at the door and the twenty minutes you will lose parking near the Alumni Avenue side.

Pick five to ten employers before you go. Career Services says it out loud: research first, prioritize, then work the room. Wandering the ballroom alphabetically is how you run out of time.
Print real resumes. Several, in a portfolio, not folded in a back pocket.
Bring your student ID. Alumni, bring whatever proves you are one.
Business professional is required, not suggested. It is printed on the Career Services page for a reason.
Have a 30-second version of yourself ready: field, what you are looking for, one thing you have actually done.
Follow up within 48 hours. A short email to the recruiter you met is the cheapest advantage in the process.
