The museum lists its openings on its own careers page, and every one of them is applied for by email, not through a portal. As of this writing there are three.

  • Security Officer, full-time, $18.50 an hour. Patrols the galleries, courtyard, roof terrace and garage, and works the camera and alarm room. You need a high school diploma or GED, a background investigation and Tennessee unarmed security officer certification. Officers may split time between Overton Park and the riverfront during the move.
  • Guest Services Team Member, part-time. Ticketing and check-in, gallery floor, retail and the coffee cart, rotating by the day. Customer service or hospitality experience is required. Pay is not listed.
  • Retail Manager. Runs the new Museum Store, which sits at street level with its own entrance and stays open past gallery hours. Base salary plus commission, for someone who has run a store and hit numbers. Museum experience is optional.

All three require evenings, weekends or holidays. That is the trade in this line of work: the busy hours are when everyone else is off.

⚠️ Read the Posting Before You Hit Send

Applications go by email, so the small stuff matters. Every posting asks for a resume and a cover letter, with the job title in the subject line. The security posting asks for "Museum Security Officer" in the subject, which is not quite the title on the page, so use that wording. Each role goes to a different hiring contact, listed on its posting.

The museum has not announced a total headcount for the new building, and it has not said whether more roles will post before December 6. Treat the three on the page as the confirmed openings, and check back weekly.

🏛️ A $180 Million Building on the Bluff

The museum fills a full city block on the site of the old Memphis Fire headquarters, near the historic Cossitt Library. Herzog & de Meuron designed it, with Memphis firm archimania as local architect. Inside: roughly 50 percent more gallery space than the Brooks had in Overton Park, a 10,000-square-foot courtyard called Hyde Square, a theater, learning studios and the rooftop sculpture garden.

The headline for residents is admission. The museum announced in June that it will be free for everyone who lives in Shelby County, from Millington to Collierville, permanently. Free admission means bigger crowds, and bigger crowds need floor staff.

🍽️ The Restaurant Comes Next

A full-service restaurant on the Front Street corner is scheduled for January 2027, run by John-Paul Gagliano's family restaurant group, the team behind Ecco, Libro and Tonica. The museum's announcement describes a 4,595-square-foot dining room, a 20-seat bar and a catering kitchen for weddings and private events.

No restaurant hiring has been announced yet. If you cook, serve or tend bar, get your resume ready and watch for postings over the next two months.
