Why ITT Goulds Pumps Picked Memphis

The company runs a distribution center in Southaven today and has run out of room there. According to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development announcement, the Memphis site adds space for growth, more inventory on hand and capacity to keep up with rising customer demand.

The Greater Memphis Chamber's release says the new center will expand distribution, warehousing and inventory management, serving industrial, energy and water customers across North America. State officials pointed to the same things that pull every logistics player to Shelby County: rail, interstates, the airport and the river.

Goulds was founded in 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, where it is still headquartered. Its pumps go into chemical plants, mines, power stations, paper mills and water and wastewater systems. Parent company ITT Inc. employs more than 11,000 people worldwide.

On the local side, the project went before the Economic Development Growth Engine (EDGE) board on October 21 as a Fast Track PILOT application, the standard tax-incentive route for new industrial projects in Memphis. The Daily Memphian reported that the board approved the tax break.

💼 What the 57 Jobs Will Look Like

Here is the honest version: no job titles, pay rates or hiring timeline have been published. The state and the Chamber describe the positions as manufacturing and distribution roles, and the Chamber calls them high-paying, but neither puts a dollar figure on it.

The facility's job tells you the likely shape of the roster. A pump manufacturing and distribution center needs assemblers and pump mechanics on the floor, plus warehouse associates, forklift operators, shipping and receiving clerks and inventory control staff, with supervisors and maintenance techs behind them. ITT already posts pump mechanic and assembler openings at its other U.S. sites, so those titles are a reasonable guide to what Memphis will need.

Treat that as a forecast, not a promise. No Memphis postings were live when this article was published.

⚠️ Before You Get Your Hopes Up on Timing

There is no opening date. A $31 million build-out takes time, and announcements like this one usually come well before the first hire. If you need a paycheck this month, keep applying elsewhere and treat Goulds as a 2027 target rather than a fall one.

If you already work at the Southaven site, watch for word from your manager about whether current roles move to Mineral Wells Road. The company has not said publicly how many Southaven employees will transfer, or whether the 57 jobs are all new hires.

📋 How to Be First in Line

  • Check ITT's official careers site and search for Memphis every couple of weeks.
  • Get your forklift certification current. Distribution roles in Shelby County ask for it constantly.
  • Put mechanical assembly, blueprint reading and inventory systems experience near the top of your resume.
  • Line up references from a warehouse or plant supervisor now, not after a posting appears.
